The City of Glasgow bought Salvador Dalí's 'Christ of St. John of The Cross' for its Museums and Galleries collection in 1952. A high profile and controversial purchase, the painting has been attacked and seriously damaged on at least two occasions by visitors to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery.
